The Monthly Report

July 2015

Word Count

Goal: 10,000 words

Word count for July: 9,736

So close!  But considering I set the goal when the month was already 6 days in and it’s summer time (translation: kids are home and up in my grill yay, so much time together!), I’ll take it.  This is a combined word count from the blog & the novel I’m working on.

Books

I’m in one of my favorite conundrums right now.  I have too many books!  I much prefer it to times I find myself without a book at all.  I was lent a book, we’ve got a little free library in our neighborhood where I recently nabbed 4 books, several “on hold” books came in at the library in quick succession and I bought one for my Kindle last week.

Surprisingly enough, though, my book tally this month is scant!  I started with The Ocean at the End of the Lane, which Jason read last year and enjoyed but I just couldn’t get into it.  I spent the first half of the month trying to make myself want to read it but finally gave up about half way through.  Ah well.

Right now I’m reading Sarah’s Key which has been ok so far.  I’m about one-third of the way through it and the plot is picking up speed so we’ll see how it goes.

I’ve also been reading God Laughs & Plays by David James Duncan (y’all know he’s one of my faves!) and enjoying every chapter.  I’m taking my time.  I read one chapter every couple of weeks and, like My Bright Abyss, I’m hoping to stretch it out for as long as possible.

Their Eyes Were Watching God (I’ve already read this one but it was in the free library and I couldn’t resist)

Goals for August

10,000 words
Spend more time reading in the evenings.  I tend to putter about after the boys go to bed and while away the evening hours doing inane or random or time-sucking activities.  I’d like to be more intentional about the way I spend those few hours each day.
